Bandwidth10 Inc.

Bandwidth

Brief Description

Bandwidth10 was founded to commercialize cutting-edge tunable lasers suited for high-speed and high-resolution sensing in the medical, industrial, automotive, and telecommunication industries. The company brings revolutionary wavelength-tunable Vertical Cavity Surface Emitting Laser (VCSEL) technology to the market, delivering cost-effective tunable solutions that are out of reach with conventional technologies. The company’s swept-source VCSELs range in wavelength from 720 nm to 1700 nm for FBG sensing, 2D and 3D imaging, biosensing, gas sensing, LIDAR, industrial and medical OCT, and many other applications. With a leading edge tunable VCSEL design, optoelectronic packaging and control electronics teams, the company offers complete solutions with the laser ranging from TO and pigtailed packages to OCT engines and control electronics.

Bandwidth10's innovative High-Contrast Grating (HCG) VCSEL technology was developed by founders Christopher Chase, Yi Rao, and Michael Huang while earning their PhDs at UC Berkeley in the lab of Professor of Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences Connie Chang-Hasnain. Drs. Chase, Rao, and Huang completed their PhD thesis research on VCSELs with a completely new concept for a top mirror. The HCG is a single layer, ultra-thin grating made of a high index material with a sub-wavelength period, which exhibits a much broader reflection band than conventional Distributed Bragg Reflectors (DBR).
